30 Days Effort with Communities to Wipe Aedes Mosquitoes Out

LG Electronics Malaysia (LG) has today announced the launch of its 30 Days Dengue Free Programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH). Conducted in tandem with the ministry’s own National Dengue Awareness Campaign, this campaign also aims to intensify on-going efforts to reduce the number of dengue cases.

“As of October 2015, there were more than 96,222 dengue cases and 263 deaths reported in Malaysia. It is an increase of 72% of death cases in the same period last year. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam had earlier this year described the current situation as “very unusual”.

“We are glad and appreciate efforts by private organisations collaborating with MoH and other agencies to combat the dengue menace. With corporate participation such as this, I believe we will be able to reduce the number of dengue cases in Malaysia,” said Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Malaysia Health Minister.

“LG‘s Life’s good is a philosophy we live with to continuously enrich the lives of the people. We are pleased to introduce this programme to reduce the number of dengue cases through education and action oriented approach. By partnering with the Ministry of Health, we look forward to a greater well-being for the society with reduced dengue cases,” said David Oh, Managing Director, LG Electronics Malaysia.

In support of this initiative, LG has initiated the 30 Days Dengue Free Programme by working together with students from the Health Science Faculty of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to organize weekly community engagements and gotong-royong sessions at hotspot areas in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam.

In the programme, LG adopted five high risks dengue areas in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam. Throughout the campaign, LG will work closely with residents by sharing guidelines in dengue prevention and engaging in a competition to clean up the surroundings. The winning residential area will walk away with LG’s Mosquito Away Air Conditioner along with other LG products by 15 November 2015.

LG hopes to contribute towards reducing the number of dengue cases with the introduction of LG Mosquito Away Air Conditioner. The air conditioner repels mosquitoes even if the air conditioner is not running. With just a push of the ‘Mosquito Away button’, the air conditioner uses a frequency of between 30 kHz – 100 kHz Ultrasonic wave to repel mosquitoes in the house. The technology is harmless to human whereby the ultrasonic technology only affects mosquitoes.

The Mosquito Away feature received worldwide recognitions by CE European Conformity, TUV NORD, Intertek and National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology of Vietnam for its effectiveness to successfully repel mosquitoes.
