In this post, we’d like to share with you a list of the accolades received just last year alone and we’re just excited to welcome 2014 and hope to keep the awards coming in.
CES 2013 Best of Innovations and Design and Innovation Awards
LG garnered 10 CES 2013 Innovation Awards, including Excellence in Design and Innovation recognized in six highly-competitive categories: Video Displays, Portable Media Players and Accessories, Integrated Home Systems and Multi-Room Audio/Video, Home Theater Speakers, Home Appliances and Wireless Handsets.
Leading this row of accolades, LG was awarded ‘Best of Innovations’ award for the fifth year in a row, with this the recognition going to its LG ULTRA HD TV (84LM9600). It’s the largest TV in the world released last year, offering immersive entertainment in stunning ultra-definition with a combination of CINEMA 3D technology and Smart TV features.
The CES Innovations Awards are selected annually by a panel of prominent industry designers, engineers and journalists who judge product entries on criteria including user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality and contributions to quality of life. Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America, the CES Innovations Awards highlight product advancements in technology design and engineering.
Red Dot Design Awards
Twenty-seven of LG Electronics’ 2013 products were recognized by the red dot design awards for their excellence in the field of design. LG took top honors by receiving the coveted red dot: best of the best award for its new CURVED OLED TV. In addition to two honorable mentions, LG also received 24 other red dot design awards for products including the Touch Monitor (ET63), 100-Inch Laser TV (HECTO), Sound Bar (NB6530) and Mouse Scanner (LSM-300).
LG was also honored with the red dot: grand prix for its reusable eco-package design. Only six out of the total of 6,369 entries received this exclusive award from the red dot jurors. The design was noted for using eco-friendly and recyclable materials as well as for its high versatility – the packaging can be reused as a photo frame or a pencil stand, among other purposes.
A panel of 37 independent judges considered over 4,662 products from 1,865 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries last year according to criteria such as innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, sustainability, symbolic and emotional content, and whether a product is self-explanatory. Started in 1955, the red dot design award program, organized by the European design institute Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, has become one of the most highly recognized international design competitions.
iF Design Awards
Having been previously honored for nine years in a row, LG took home 23 iF product designs awards last year, besting more than 3,000 competitive entries. LG’s OLED TV (model EM9700) was recognized for its design excellence. Four communication design awards were also bestowed on LG among 1,086 competing entries. LG’s OLED TV microsite (www.LGOLED.tv) was recognized for the visual way in which it told the story of “the ultimate next generation display.”
Since 1953, iF design awards have recognized outstanding design. Assessed by internationally renowned experts in design, industry and education, the awards is a true recognition known worldwide.
Along with the three major awards we mentioned the above; there were also many more that recognized LG’s great achievements in 2013.
TÜV Rheinland, Europe’s most respected consumer product testing and certification authority, certified CURVED OLED TV’s impressive picture quality. In addition, VDE, Europe’s largest technical/scientific associations, tested and certified LG CURVED OLED and praised its performance in terms of contrast, gamma characteristics, 3D cross-talk, color viewing angle, color expression and color uniformity. On the other hand, Intertek, a consumer product certification company, certified the excellent picture quality of the LG CURVED OLED TV. The organization used a comprehensive battery of tests to measure every aspect of the TV’s superior visual performance. The Ergonomics Society of Korea (ESK) also found the CURVED OLED TV to be superior in user friendliness, functionality, longevity, ease of maintenance and marketability. THX, a certification company, assessed the CURVED OLED TV’s picture quality based on 10 separate measurements including brightness, black levels and R/G/B/W gamma. Finally, European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), a unique association of 50 special interest magazines covering various electronics from 20 European countries, brought attention on LG’s groundbreaking 55-inch CURVED OLED TV featuring a gently curved, IMAX-like screen with a stunning 4.3mm slim depth for providing the most immersive viewing experience .
